YC’s “before you grow” advice is still the cleanest operating order.
Growth before customer love creates a leaky bucket. The sequence matters: talk to users, ship, learn, then scale what works.

The operating order
YC’s best startup advice is simple because it is hard to dodge: build something people want, talk to users, write code, and focus on the numbers that prove demand.
This is also the right frame for agency clients. Do not scale confusion. Do not buy traffic to a weak offer. Do not build product features because they sound impressive.
The IDC version
Start with the bottleneck. If the offer is unclear, fix the offer. If trust is weak, fix the website and proof. If demand is hidden, run outreach and paid tests. If operations repeat, turn the service into software.
The channel is downstream from the business problem.
The decision rule
Choose the next action that creates the highest-quality learning fastest. Then make it measurable enough that the next decision is obvious.
